Invest in Prevention: A Path to a Drug-Free World (International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking 2024)

On 26th June 2024: International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking 2024 points out the critical role of prevention in combating drug misuse and trafficking.

Let’s understand, What are drugs?

The regular use of addictive or illegal drugs is referred to as drug abuse. It entails the improper or excessive use of drugs for purposes other than medical care, which can have negative effects on both the individual and society. Drug misuse can lead to addiction, health problems, and a breakdown in interpersonal relationships, among other physical, psychological, and social issues.

Why does prevention matter?

Prevention is a critical aspect of combating drug abuse and illicit trafficking because it tackles the underlying causes of drug usage and provides a proactive strategy for safeguarding both individuals and communities. By making investments in prevention, we can lessen the negative effects that drug usage has on people’s health, relationships, and finances while also fostering a society that is safer, healthier, and more prosperous for everybody.
